Practical Information Flames Summer School 2025
This year the FLAMES Summer School takes place at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel from 8 until 19 September 2025. When selecting the modules, please keep in mind that:
- You cannot subscribe for overlapping modules.
- Some modules contain practical sessions in R or SPSS. You choose one software package. Once you make a choice, this applies to all the modules that you want to subscribe for. Example: if you choose SPSS for “Module 01 Basic Parametric Statistics”, it is not possible to subscribe for “Module 17 Factor Analysis”.
- You can only subscribe for the preliminary module ‘Introduction to R/Python’ if you follow at least one module in the Flames Summer School that uses R/Python.
Pricing
The following pricing applies for the modules of the Flames Summer School:

*There are a limited amount of free spaces available for students of KU Leuven, Hasselt University, University of Antwerp, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Ghent University.
As long as such places are available, the price of the tickets will be recalculated in the shopping cart.
If there are no free spaces left, you will be able to choose between the waiting list or paying for the tickets yourself. If you choose to be added to the waiting list, your ticket will not be booked untill another free space becomes available.
**Be aware that a service fee will be applied automatically to your cart.
During the summer school, you will receive a certificate of payment.Format
Some courses will be offered online, whereas other courses will be organised on campus. Please check carefully whether your course is online or live on campus. There is no hybrid teaching. We will provide rooms if you combine both an online course and an on campus course in one day. In case the covid situation worsens, all courses will be offered online.
Certificates and No show policy
Attendance & Certificates
Only by fully completing the module will you receive an attendance certificate. The certificates are valid for the minimal requirements in the Flemish doctoral schools. If you fail to follow the complete course, you might not get a certificate.
Cancellation Policy
Any cancellation made less than two weeks before the start of the summer school can be seen as a violation of our policy.
Penalties
1. Late Cancellation
A cancellation less than two weeks before the start of the summer school without a valid reason will invoke the following penalties:
- The promotor of the PhD students will be notified.
- Private/non-profit participants will be charged a cancellation fee of 100 euros per module per day that will be deducted from the total sum eligible for reimbursement.
2. Repeat Cancellations
In case of a second late cancellation:
- Participants will not be allowed to enter a FLAMES training for the next 6 months.
- PhD students’ promotors will be notified of this infringement.
3. No-show & Last-minute Cancellation
In case of an unannounced no-show or last-minute cancellation on any module of the summer school:
- Participants will not be allowed to enter a FLAMES training for the next 6 months; PhD students’ promotor will be notified.
- Private/non-profit participants will be charged the full participation fee of the course/workshop without any form of reimbursement.
- The no-show penalties above will not be due if the participant can provide the documents for the valid reasons stated under the next section.
Valid Reasons for Cancellation
Events that will not invoke a penalty/cancellation fee are:
- Documented illness.
- Documented cases of personal or family emergencies.
The reasons for cancellation must be duly documented with a medical certificate (illness) or an official declaration (emergencies).
Documentation
The documents will have to be mailed to contact@flames-statistics within 5 working days after the cancellation. Failure to comply with these documentation terms will invoke the cancellation penalties.
