This online interactive seminar reviews the theory and practice of focus group methods, and demonstrates how researchers can use focus groups to understand the issues, needs and ideas of particular groups. The seminar starts with a short repetition of the basic issues of focus groups. After that, participants will learn more about the history of focus groups, ethical issues, developing interview guides, focus groups designs, capturing group discussions, different types of participants, online focus groups, points of attention in working with diverse groups, using focus groups alone or in combination with other research methods, etc. The morning session will focus on theoretical aspects of conducting focus groups. The afternoon session will be more interactive and include practical group exercises in breakout rooms.
