This more advanced 1-day class on qualitative interviewing builds further on the insights provided in the basic FLAMES course on interviews. In the morning session we explore different variations of the standard qualitative interview. The different forms of interviewing that will be presented can be considered as a toolbox, suitable for different research purposes, with the idea ‘to enlarge the tool chest of the qualitative research interviewer’ (Brinkman & Kvale, 2015). We will focus for instance on creative forms of interviews that involve ‘doing’ more than talk, sensory and go-along interviews, different elicitation techniques to be used in interviews, collaborative interviewing, asynchronous interviewing etc.
In the afternoon session we will talk about reporting interview knowledge. The following questions will be addressed: How to report your interview findings to different audiences? What are standard modes of reporting interviews and what are ways to improve ‘boring’ interview articles? We will also discuss some practical issues when writing an article and integrating your interview findings.
This course can be combined with the 1-day basic interviewing FLAMES course which will be organised on 7/2/2022.
Please note that separate registrations for both courses are required.
If you already have some basic knowledge of interviews, you can also choose to register for this class only.
