Abstract
Mediation analysis tests a hypothetical causal chain where one variable X affects a second variable M and, in turn, that variable affects a third variable Y. A mediator explains how or why an independent variable is related to a dependent variable. Moderation tests whether a variable (M) affects the direction and/or strength of the relationship between an independent variable (X) and a response variable (Y). Moderator shows when or under what conditions an independent variable is related to a dependent variable.
In this seminar, you are going to learn the most important concepts in mediation and moderation analysis such as direct, indirect and total effects, main effects, and interaction effects. You will also be introduced to the different steps in determining whether a variable is a Moderator or a mediator using the R software.
